The benefits of exercise are almost endless.

You hear about how good exercise is for you each time you turn on the TV or go to the doctor. But what does that mean?

There’s lots of conflicting information so if exercise is not your passion, it’s easy to say “whatever!” and just skip it.

Making excuses is easy.

A lot of people say...

                           I’m just too old!

Nothing could be further from the truth! The older you are the more you need to exercise.

As you age you lose muscle mass. Muscle is hungry tissue. Fat just goes along for the ride! The more muscle you have the more calories you burn.

Your bones start to weaken as well. Exercise puts stress on your bones making them stronger.

The old “use it” or “lose it” applies to exercise and aging.

I hate the way I feel while I’m exercising

If you struggle with the physical feelings you experience while exercising you’re not alone!

When you haven’t exercised for a long time your body literally forgets how to deal with it. It has to get adjusted again. That can be uncomfortable.

Your body is smart. If it doesn’t need something it deletes it.

When you’re exercising regularly you have more red blood cells and enzymes to get oxygen to your muscles quickly. When you stop exercising your body lets those elements go.

Once you exercise regularly again, your body gains the extra red blood cells and enzymes it needs. When that happens, you not only feel better while you exercise, you feel better all day!

So hang in for the rewards!

                            I hate to sweat!

You may think you sweat more when you just get back into exercising but actually you just sweat sooner because your system is not able to cool itself down as well as when you’re fit.

Your body forgets how to do that too!

Once you get into a pattern of regular exercise you’ll still sweat, it’ll just take you longer to start the dripping because you’ll be in better shape.

Fit people sweat!

Sweating is how we cool ourselves down.

Sweating is an individual thing. Some people sweat more easily than others.

You want to make friends with your sweat.

That sounds weird but it’s true! Change your thinking. Tell yourself how great your shower will feel after your work out.

                   I don’t have time!

A change of thought needs to happen here too! You really need to tell yourself how much exercise adds to your life and then fit it in.

Ideally, you want to put a side time every day to exercise. 30 minutes a day of aerobic exercise and 2 to 3 non consecutive days per week of strength training is best.

But if not that...

You don’t have to go to the gym or even set aside specific time to exercise. You can simply walk more, take stairs instead of elevators, get up every hour or so at work and march in place or go to the water cooler.

You just need to make sure you move often!

In the end, you’ll actually have more time because you’ll spend less time at the doctors office, have fewer sick days and spend less time at the store buying new clothes to replace the ones you out grew!

                        You can do it!

You can do it! Really you can. The mind is an amazing thing. If you tell yourself everyday that I can do it. You will!
